I am so so excited and thankful to have been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award! I’m incredibly grateful to the amazing Naomi, Inching Forward, for nominating me, especially as I’m so new to blogging, it means a lot to me. Naomi’s blog is insightful and interesting and I especially love her political posts so it really is an honour to be nominated for this award by her.
1) Describe a family member who you really connect with.
My amazingly strong aunt, Ali, she’s the funniest and most sarcastic person I know and probably the family member I connect with the most because we have similar interests and personalities. She’s been living with cancer for the past two years, and just a few hours ago we found out that she’s no longer going to be having chemotherapy because the cancer isn’t shrinking, I completely and utterly admire her because despite all of this she remains so upbeat, happy and constantly puts on a brave face. She’s such an inspiration and I absolutely adore her.
2) What’s your favourite TV show and why?
I honestly feel like this changes on a weekly basis so it’s so hard to choose. Probably Friends (a cliche, I know), mainly because it’s the show that I can watch over and over again, which I’ve done a billion times, without getting bored of it and it never fails to make me laugh.
3) What challenges have you faced in your life? What did you do to overcome them?
This is a tricky question as I feel as though I’ve been pretty lucky throughout my life, and haven’t really faced many major challenges. Confidence and body positivity is what comes to mind because it’s something that I’ve struggled with for a huge portion of my life. Although I do still struggle with it now I’m definitely improving and overcoming looking at myself negatively. Although it’s such a stupid and simple thing, I think the thing that’s helped me the most with this are pages on Instagram that promote feminism, body positivity, etc, as seeing positive messages on my social media feeds every day really does make a huge difference.
4) Pitch a podcast idea in 150 words or less.
Just me sharing my unwanted opinions on anything and everything for an hour a week. I do it in real life already so I may as well make a podcast from it, and I really do think people would enjoy it (however I am a tad biased).
5) What does a normal day look like for you?
I’m still in sixth form so unfortunately a normal day for me is pretty much going to school, go to the gym, come home an do my work an then get to bed. Weekends are a lot different, I usually watch movies at my boyfriend’s house, go out with friends, do a shift or two in work and try and catch up on some sleep!
6) If there were no laws for one day what would you do?
I’d definitely steal a whole new wardrobe and makeup bag because I am in need of so many things but I’m so poor! Though in reality, I’d probably hide away in my house, because in a day with no laws somebody would 100% be out to murder me (I’m thinking a real-life The Purge).
7) What would you most like to change about the world?
I think it would be quicker to ask what I wouldn’t want to change… the world is certainly flawed in many different ways. I’d like to stop the unfair treatment of women, ethnic minorities, the LGBTQ+ community, and other groups that are discriminated against and achieve true and full equality amongst everybody. I’d also love to decrease the gap between the wealthiest and poorest in the world because I find it shocking and heartbreaking that we live in a world were people starving to death can coexist with billionaires.
8) What are you most ‘into’ (excluding blogging/writing)?
Honestly, sleeping, eating and watching Netflix. I don’t really have a lot of hobbies so when I’m not in school I usually go out with friends as a lot of them don’t go to my school so I don’t get to see them too often, and go to the gym, but 80% of the time I have to force myself to go there, so I wouldn’t really class myself as being into it…
9) Where would you like to be in ten years?
Writing for Cosmopolitan and settled down with the person I’m going to spend my life with. Cosmopolitan is probably a bit ambitious for ten years time, especially considering I’ve got five years of education to go, but it’s been the dream ever since I knew I wanted to be a journalist, so it’s where I’d love to be.
10) Write a description of yourself from the perspective of a superfan.
Absolutely gorgeous and sexy, hilariously witty and amazingly intelligent. Just kidding… it would probably be along the lines of, sarcastic, annoying, and the biggest narcissist ever.
11) What pets would you like to have and why?
I currently have the cutest little pug, Tilly and I love her to pieces, even though she’s fat and lazy (as you can see here). When I live on my own I would love to get a dachshund puppy called Frank (once again, a cliche) because I think they’re so adorable and definitely want a friend like Tilly when I move out.
